9/29/2026 at 13:01 I am trying to work out my undertone before choosing a few new clothes, but the phone camera gives me a different answer almost every time. Under a warm bulb my face looks golden; by the window it looks cooler. The mirror seems more consistent, though I know nearby walls and clothing can cast color too. I would like to make one repeatable comparison rather than collect more screenshots. My plan is to use indirect daylight, remove makeup, keep the same camera settings, and hold two fabrics close to my face in the same place. I would look for changes in redness, shadows, and how clear my eyes appear. Does that approach sound reasonable? I am especially unsure whether a plain white background helps or simply makes the phone adjust its exposure again. If I take pictures, I would also keep the reference fabric in each frame so I can compare them later. I looked through an explanation of skin tone analysis while learning the vocabulary, but I would rather check the conditions of the test than trust a single label from an image. If you have tested undertones in daylight, which steps made the difference easiest to see? I can test again under the same conditions. I am not looking for a perfect camera score. I can record the time and lighting for each photo. I would welcome specific advice. |
9/29/2026 at 12:46 My phone keeps making my skin look different in every room, so I am questioning the undertone notes I made from photographs. Near a window, my face appears fairly neutral. Under a ceiling light it looks warmer, while the camera sometimes pushes the whole image toward pink. The pale fabric behind me shifts color as well. I found descriptions of skin tone analysis but I do not know how much faith to put in an automatic phone image. I would avoid direct sunlight on my face. I can turn off beauty filters. I could hold the same white card beside my face and photograph it at roughly the same time on several days. Would fixed exposure and white balance help? I could compare images only when the settings match. I would also compare the actual fabric in a mirror, because the photo may be recording the room more than my skin. I would rather ignore differences caused by the camera. For people who have done this carefully, which lighting conditions gave consistent observations, and when did you decide a photo was misleading? I can repeat the comparison before drawing a conclusion. A practical checklist would help me separate the camera settings from the colors I am trying to judge.

The background changes too, which seems like a warning sign. I found descriptions of skin tone analysis but I do not know how much faith to put in an automatic phone image. I would avoid direct sunlight on my face. I can use the ordinary camera mode without filters. I could hold the same white card beside my face and photograph it at roughly the same time on several days. Would fixed exposure and white balance help? I could compare images only when the settings match. I would also compare the actual fabric in a mirror, because the photo may be recording the room more than my skin. I am trying to avoid chasing tiny shifts in an image. For people who have done this carefully, which lighting conditions gave consistent observations, and when did you decide a photo was misleading? I am happy to repeat the test if that makes it clearer. A practical checklist would help me separate the camera settings from the colors I am trying to judge.
